“ I am interested in the ‘too much’, doing too much, giving too much, putting too much of an effort into something, wastefulness as a tool or weapon” – Thomas Hirschhorn
Most of my work uses printmaking techniques, focusing on wood block & metal type letterpress and silkscreen printing. I create work inspired by typography and message distribution, Dada graphic design, memory and memory loss. Through this is I express the ongoing relationship between typography and art.
Having studied printmaking during my time at university, I have persisted with the traditional methods of print. I make (often time consuming) posters inspired by traditional early 20th century style and particularly the Dada graphic designers and Russian Constructivists. I am inspired by artists such as; El Lissitzky, Alexander Rodchenko, Jenny Holzer, Gustav Metzger, Joseph Beuys, Anselm Kiefer, Bob and Roberta Smith, Thomas Hirschhorn Fiona Banner, Jaume Plensa and A.J Bocchino
Things that stick gathers an ongoing list of memories, both personal and collective, as a large wall drawing. This is accompanied a hand printed book with the memories in it, titled You can’t buy this. The work is inspired by the late Mary Bescoby, my grandmother, a sufferer of Dementia.
